Grade 2: Negative & Positive Space

GRADE:  2

LEARNING TARGET:  I can identify negative & positive SPACE in a work of art.

Grade 4: Space & Overlapping

Winter Snow Birds



GRADE:  4

LEARNING TARGET:  I can create SPACE through overlapping.

MEDIA:  watercolors, oil pastels, & tempera paint

First, we painted the background using watercolor.  Students had 
free choice of how to paint their background.  In class we reviewed the warm and cool colors. 




Students drew a tree branch using pencil on top of their watercolor background. Then color was added using oil pastels.



Next, the students drew their birds.  They were shown how to use overlapping to create the illusion of SPACE.   Oil pastels were used for color.  Once again,  students were reminded of how the warm and cool colors can be used to create CONTRAST.   The last step was to add snow but only if they wanted.



Create job Wolverines!!!!
