1: PURR-FECT PATTERNS


Learning targets:
I can identify a Pattern.
I can make a Pattern using Line and Color.
I can create a piece of artwork using Patterns.

Laurel Burch was an American artist, designer and businesswoman.  Born Laurel Anne Harte in the San Fernando Valley, California on New Year's Eve, 1945.  When she was just age 14, she began supporting herself by working as a cook, house cleaner and baby-sitter.  She married a jazz musician, Robert Burch when she was 19 years old.  They had two children.  Laurel started  making jewelry at the age of 20 and sold her artwork on the streets of San Francisco from tackle boxes.  In the 1960's she started her own business, now called Laurel Burch Artworks. She is best known for her visions of “fantastic felines,” mythical animals, colorful blossoms, butterflies, moons, and hearts.







1: NEON LINES

Learning targets:
I can identify lines in artwork.
I can create thick and thin lines.
I can use lines to create artwork.


Students were inspired by the Russian painter 
Wassily Kandinsky.  He was a lawyer but turned to his true passion, art to make a living.  He was an influential art theorist and is know as the grandfather of abstract art.     Kandinsky is credited with painting the first purely abstract works.  He was born in Moscow.











1: DRAWING JOURNALS 2013-14

Drawing Journals are a source of freedom and structure.  Our journals hold our thoughts, ideas, notes and dreams.  





1: MORE THAN ONE WAY TO DRAW A CAT


Our learning target was to use Line, Shapes and the Primary Colors to create a feline.  We were inspired by 

"Pete the Cat: I Love My White Shoes"

K: THE RAINBOW FISH

Learning targets:
I can make a Pattern using lines.
I can identify the warm colors.
I can identify the cool colors.
I can create Contrast using the warm and cool Colors.


We shared the story, "The Rainbow Fish" and learned the importance of sharing with others.  Young artists then use Lines to create Patterns and the warm and cool Colors to create Contrast.

Students use their DJ's to practice and take notes, for brainstorming and FUN!!!!
